JS were my girls when they debuted back in '03. Everybody tried to call them a knock-off of Changing Faces but these girls were truly their own group. Kellz hooked them up with some great material and these ladies had angelic voices that could sell the phonebook if they had to. Sad Dreamworks screwed over their promotion and then the label folded on them. Last I heard, Kandy (the one on the right) had married Mr. Biggs aka Ron Isley and is now pregnant their first child. So I guess plans for a sophomore album are on hold for now. Until then, d/l this and enjoy some of the smoothest R&B around. Who don't love a good scoop of Ice Cream?
A few people may remember this cat from the early 2000's. Novel was signed to Rawkus and dropped a hot single called "Peach" and then the label folded and his album shelved. Thank the powers that be in the music industry that he is coming back for a secong go-round on Dallas Austin's reactivated Rowdy Records!! Check for his "debut" album, The Audiobiography, in stores later this year. And until then, enjoy the hottness of his debut.
Yet another stroke of musical genius that bit the dust thanks to label politics. Cherokee tried to move to greener pastures by switching from RCA to Arista and got caught in the middle when both labels under went major reconstruction. The album was delayed indefinitely and Cherokee hasn't been heard from since. Such a tragedy seeing as how this is one of the best albums to emerge from the whole "neo-soul" movement and had plenty of records on it to entertain black radio audiences across the nation. Here's to hoping Cherokee goes for a third try somewhere in the near future.
A Soulshock & Karlin protege from Denmark, Maria's album got lost in the shuffle of other pretty-faced, decent-voiced female R&B albums released around the same time. But it's definitely worth a listen and one of the more entertaining albums to come from that genre. Enjoy.
One of my all-time favorite albums from one of the most underrated singer/songwriter/producers this generation has ever seen. His new album doesn't drop until December so download this, rip it, burn it, love it and then go buy 3 copies. One of the best albums I've ever heard and sure I'll ever hear. Period!!
